Sometimes to develop a WordPress website a designer will need to access the files directly. WordPress does allow you to edit the theme template you are using via the Appearance/Editor menu options, however this only allows access to the theme files – php and css. To access all the files in the WordPress system you need to use FTP or login into the hosting Front Panel and choose File Manager.

You will have received an FTP username and password along with the hosting Control Panel login information in your welcome e-mail.

You will also need an FTP client, which works a little like Windows Explorer, with drag and dropping of WordPress files .
